Media Film Festival April 5th - 6th 2013

Posted on 09:27 by tony
We are quite lucky to have our own Film Festival here in Media.  That's not only a great achievement for the town, but shows the focused dedication of the Media Arts Council who work hard to put these events on.  As popular as this festival is and the attendance it draws, it could be better.

By better I mean having this event a the historic Media Theatre instead of community center that has the

The Media Community Appreciates Our Postal Workers!

Posted on 17:04 by tony

Thanks! Media Post Office Workers!

I had a resident contact me this week who was quite concerned and upset at how the Post Office workers at the Media branch were being treated by patrons.   I haven't been there to see it first hand, nor am I here on this blog to tell people how to act, but if it was a big enough issue for this person, then it's definitely worth bringing to light with the rest

Why didn't Mayor McMahon and Borough Council notify the community on the Third St. Bidge offer?

Posted on 06:19 by tony

If
the situation with the Third Street Bridge hasn’t crossed the line of
no return, which means never being fixed, then it took one giant leap
towards the abyss last week.  What Borough Council never shared with
anyone, was an offer they received from BLCC to move the project forward with a
deal for a one-way roadway.   In good faith to the community,
BLCC offered a condition that a one

Happy Birthday Media Trolley!

Media Trolley Turns 100 Years Old!

You don't look a day over 100! That's right, the Media Trolley will have its 100th year anniversary coming up this year.  I was contacted this week and informed Septa is looking to hold a celebration for this historical mode of transportation.  Media is the last town in America that has a trolley running down its main street.

Here we go again........Borough Council Confused Again on Propsed Wawa Site

Posted on 20:46 by tony
When Council President, Brian Hall says "It's a complicated" matter, start preparing for a long, confusing explanation with no end.  That was his favorite term for the Third Street Bridge, which still isn't done after 18 years.  Now he's using the same terminology for the proposed Wawa site.

Wawa gets the runaround by Boro Council

It's really quite simple Borough Council: Do you want a Wawa

Media's Americana Roots Ramble - April 20, 2013

Posted on 03:45 by tony

Here we go!  This year's Roots Ramble will be on Saturday April 20, 2013.  Of the three music festivals Media has, this one in my opinion is the best.  Check out the site for up to minute details on this event.   They can always use a helping hand, so consider volunteering to help setup for the shows.

Media in Two Minutes - Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Posted on 05:11 by tony

Media in Two Minutes!
Happy St. Paddy's Day!

First thing first!  St. Paddy's day in Media isn't quite on par with Springfield PA, when it comes to celebrating, but don't think we don't get our green on here.  In fact, for the hardcore faithful, Media's own Irish Pub, Sligo's kicks off the day today at 9am.  Stephen's on State will be joining in too, with the Plumstead also showing its Irish

Don't get Fooled Again Media, PA!

The writing was on the wall back in 2011 when Councilman Eric Stein failed to show up for half of his meetings as liaison to the Media Business Authority (MBA).  A committee that is entrusted with providing a vibrant economic environment for local businesses, while promoting Media as a destination for area visitors.  With the committee receiving tens of

Here's to the Dog Owners in Media! A great article by Dr. Sam Lemon

Posted on 15:26 by tony

I have a dog, but we definitely don't run in the same circles that a lot of other dog owners do here in Media, it's an "dog" thing.  There's no doubt that "Everybody's Home Town" surely extends that charm to creatures of all sorts.  Even the fox and skunks over on 6th St.   However. if you're a dog owner, and walk around the courthouse during the evening, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Third St. Bridge: Back to Court March 13th

Posted on 10:04 by tony

Though Media Borough Council was successful in having the court order stipulation dropped, Judge Proud is not quite finished with the whole ordeal and has asked the parties to return to court March 13th.  I'm not quite sure what that meeting will entail, but I do know that with the stipulation dropped, this whole situation is back to where it started 17 years ago.  That means all those

Update: Media Parking Meters take credit cards

Posted on 04:09 by tony
It surprises me that Media Borough doesn't provide any announcement about the new parking meters or how they operate, but then again it really doesn't.  This week a few people contacted me about how these work and why do some have credit card slots, but don't allow you to insert your card.

Ok, first off, if you're looking to pay by credit card, make sure it looks like the one in the photo to

Buddy's Burgers is Coming to Media!

New restaurant to open in Media, Pa

If you have been missing  hamburgers in Media since Zac's left, well, you may be in luck.  From what I understand a newcomer by the name of Buddy's Burgers will be occupying Zac's former location (State St. and Orange).  One burger joint replaced by another probably works well here due to the high traffic location and a prior setup that does a good job at

Super Wawa in Media? This may have changed everything!

Posted on 15:52 by tony

Wawa not done yet with Media, PA

CORRECTION: 3/8/2013 - It was brought to my attention that the decision made by the Planning commission was in regard to the propposed Super Wawa development, and not in regard for the general use of the property as I had noted.

Timing is everything and even thought that didn't quite work out for the Super Wawa proposal late last year, the old saying, "better

New Homes on West 4th Street

Posted on 16:53 by tony

New homes on W 4th Street

The newer cluster of town-homes on the corner of 4th and Orange never quite appealed to me.  They just don't seem to fit well there among the tradition homes on that street.  Too tall!  That's the problem with some of the new homes going up in the borough; some are done very well, while other leave a bit to be desired.

Further down 4th street, I was glad to see the
