With arctic temperatures expected later this week and snow potentially on Friday, Delaware County has provided an update for those who may require assistance during this time. Here's a link to their site.
For those coming into Media to see the ball drop, you're in for a special treat. The Emcee of tonight's event, is none other than well known local, Matt Heavens who will be doing the honors up on stage.
Festivities will be kicking off at 11pm with music by Philly Gumbo. Bring your dancing shoes, as there certainly will be some lively
Peer-to-Peer Ride Sharing. Could Technology Replace the Taxi Business?
For those that don't know this, and who will probably find it out the hard way come New Year's Eve; the taxi service on this night is quite limited. It's gotten better over the years from the the likes of County Cab, but it is still hard to get a cab in Media, let alone enduring the wait time.
Hopefully you're in Dallas reading today's post while getting ready for the big Eagles game later this evening. I was hoping to be on my way to Dallas this morning while writing this post and doing the same thing. Not to be, so here we are with another round of Media in Two Minutes.
Ok, Let's Go
ATM Spotlight: Fresh Bread at 320 Cafe I've taken a liking recently to the bread selection,
When I first thought about writing this article is was just going to be a quick and easy list of the biggest, if not interesting stories that affected Media, PA in 2013. Then I got to doing some research and found there were quite a few compelling things that happened this year in Everybody's Hometown. Some good, some bizarre and others just what you'd expect from a small town of about 5,200
If you were wondering why there was a boarded up window on State Street, here's the story. From what I understand there was a ruckus by Joclyn's front entrance at around 2am Saturday morning. The commotion finished with O'Malley's lower store front window being smashed.
With the recent warmth it feels more like Christmas in July, than December, but I'm not complaining about this morning's 66 degree temperature. It's actually a nice reprieve from what I hear will be another cold snap coming in at the end of this month. I like the cold weather too.
I'm actually working on a Best of 2013 post that will highlight all the interesting news
A well known local tradition in Media, PA has always been the informal reggae christmas that takes place at what is now known as Sligo's pub. This has been going on for years with some iconic bands like Jah Works taking stage in the past. But true to the spirit, it all started with band members Bruce Scott and Jimmy Ziegler who really made the group "Jimmy Shoe and the Shine" a Media household
Believe it or not, I have about a million other things I could and should be doing other than videoing Media Borough Council meetings. So why am I doing this today? It's easy, the total lack of accountability by Media Borough Council is something all residents and businesses should be concerned about. When you have an exclusive majority held by one party, don't expect anyone to step up and
Luckily, I've not seen any lost dog/cat posting that you see from time to time on telephone posts or bulletin boards within the borough. When I find these, I do what I can to post these announcements to this site. I'll continue to do that, but there is another formal proceedure for reporting a lost or found dog that I wasn't aware of.
The $29,200 Media borough council spent on lawsuit against Third Street bridge may be small in comparison to the millions incurred due to repair cost increases over the last 19 years, but at the end of the day, we still aren't any closer to having this situation fixed. In fact, it has probably slid further backwards now that the matter will again be presented to
In the last seven days we've had three storms that have led to measurable snowfall in the area. Not sure if that's an indication of what's to come, but with it not even being officially winter yet; we've gotten more snow in the last week, than all of last year.
This week we also felt noticeably colder temperatures. Thought not quite
We don't get the celebrity spotlight shown on Media frequently, and by that I mean people starring on the late night talks shows. Look, I've never been on Jimmy Kimmel, not that I can think of any reason why I would be(at least not yet); but area local singer and songwriter Jeff Campbell who got his start playing on Media's State Street, did! Yes, that's right! Jeff and his band were the
When we get into the winter weather season here in Media, Pa we always have those who comment on the snow removal from the streets and public areas. With two storms this week, I think the Media Highway Department did a pretty good job, but then again I drive a 4x4 truck which makes the situation a lot easier from my stand point.
Media Residents Keep Paying for Bad Council Leadership
This afternoon I was sent the ruling by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania which favors BLCC in their appeal to re-instate the stipulation and contempt of court ruling over Third Street Bridge filed against Media Borough last year. After 18 years, and more recently the last two years, of borough council not understanding the basic
This is quite a big achievement and deserves the recognition that bestows such an honor. Earlier today the 2014 Pennsylvania Teach of the Year Award was given to Anthony Edward Grisillo who teaches at Glenwood Elementary. You can read more about it on delcotimes.com
There is also a great write-up about Media Elementary Teacher, Tracey Fritch who was also one of 12
As of 5:15am this morning the roads for the most part are clear and drivable. With the current temperature at 33 degrees (F) and expected to rise, the slush is giving way to a lot of water on the road with pooling in some areas. Media Station road is still a bit snow/slush covered, but I'd expect that to be better suited for driving in the
It very rarely happens, but last weekend was the first time in maybe a year I didn't write "Media in Two Minutes." I was certainly asked about the omission, but the real reason was because I was sick and not able to get my act together last Sunday.
Today we have snow in the forecast along with the 7-5 Eagles taking on Megatron and the Detroit Lions. Let the Christmas
I can't think of anything chocolate doesn't go with. I'd probably say beer and chocolate are a little awkward, but others may argue to the contrary. Beer has its own following and chocolate may even have a bigger one. Ok, so maybe chocolate is the perfect food which means Media, PA is a very lucky town. Perhaps not on par with a town named after its famous chocolate like Hersey, PA; but
This is a spectacular event supporting a great cause. Check out one of the nicest homes in Media during this holiday season. I hope to see you there!
Victorian Holiday Tea and TourSunday, December 15, 20131:00 – 6:00pmCome join us for a Victorian Holiday Tea and Tour in one of Media’s Holiday Decorated Victorian homes
With Thanksgiving now concluded and the leftovers probably devoured too, it's now time to get down to the traditional quest of purchasing a Christmas Tree. If you have an artificial tree, well, then you might not find this post all that interesting, but if you don't and enjoy having a cut tree, keep reading.
I'm no arborist, but I have sold quite a few Christmas trees in my day. In fact, it
Thanksgiving Eve marks a very special time here in Media, PA and I want to thank each and every one of you that make it such. Whether you live, work or just plan on spending some time in town this weekend, have a great time and holiday.
I'd also like to recognize and thank our Media Police Department, Media Fire Department, the EMS and all who support these efforts. Our holidays are always
Today at 3pm the Media VFW will hold its Veteran's Thanksgiving Dinner. I was down there this morning checking it out and I can say they are ready to go having started at 5:30am this morning. The turkey is done, stuffing is on and the biggest pots of gravy I've ever seen are simmering.
This is a free meal for the veterans, but families and friends are invited too (Adults $7,
****ATM SPOTLIGHT THIS WEEK!**** A special thanks to everyone who helped out with this year's turkey drive for the Media food bank. Through your generous donations we were able to deliver 37 turkeys yesterday, among the cheers from those waiting in line to get into the food bank. With 57 delivered by the Nativity Youth Group and those who were dropping off turkeys
Collectively it's looking like the Media Food Bank will receive 100 turkeys for families in need this Thanksgiving season. The Nativity Youth Group really stepped up with 57 turkeys that were distributed last night and are now all gone. On behalf of the community we'll be delivering what I hope will be enough to get this total over 100. We've received a
If you're interested in today's PA House vote on the transportation bill that includes funding for Septa, it's expected to be voted on today around 3pm EST.

Much like having a good tailor and mechanic, it's also good to have a go-to person when it comes to wine, especially during the holiday seasons. Now, you can search the internet and find countless recommendations, but much like my doctor, I like to know who I'm dealing with. Perhaps you do too, so I reached out to the best Media wine guy I know, Tom Deschere.
I have to make today's segment a bit on the short side, but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot going on. One category I've been working on is the ATM Spotlight which will feature someone or something each weekend and a story behind why it's special. A good deed, great event, new store - It could be anything
I have no problem with the fact that West Goshen Township was ranked 10th on Money Magazine's 2013 list of "America's Best Small Towns." I do, however take issue that Media, PA wasn't even listed, let alone mentioned. To support this complaint is yet another reason why it should have been: Media's ranked very high, being one of the most walkable communities around as found on
I always found the first snowfall of the year to be special, especially here in Media, PA. Though it won't be significant, or last very long; a very light and wet snow if falling across the borough this morning.
May be a good time to think about a snow shovel, snow blower or tickets to the Balearic Islands.
If you're not sure what GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) are, check out their event Thursday, November 14th, 6:30pm at the Media Upper Providence Free Library.
Here are some articles on the creation of the local chapter here in Delco.

Before we get into Media in Two Minutes, and there seems to be a lot going on this week; I wanted to take some time to talk about an effort I'm currently working on with the Media Food Bank. Two weeks ago I was at an event where I was told that the people who rely on the food bank had asked if there was anyway they could receive turkey's this year for Thanksgiving. The food bank
Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Corbett, along with his wife Sue were in Media today for an event at the Town House to kick off his campaign for a second term. With a packed room, the Governor went on to say how important it was to rescue the refineries along the Delaware River and the 141,000 jobs he's created since being in office.
The Media Area Sports Hall Of Fame celebrated its 50th Anniversary Celebration last night to a sold out room at the Towne House. President Phil Damiani put together a wonderful tribute to 50 great years capped off by a video that chronicled the history of Media Youth Sports Programs and Media and Penncrest High Schools. Steve Mescanti put this video together and it is a wonderful piece of work
I want to thank everyone who came out and supported me yesterday, however, I was unsuccessful in my bid for Mayor of Media. The last few months were not only a great experience, but enabled me to interact with the community that's a unique experience you only get from doing something like this. Despite the outcome it was and continues to be very rewarding involvement.
Stop by during the day for real-time updates on today's election here in Media. We'll be covering the polling places and happenings throughout the borough.
Polls are open from 7am to 8pm. Get out and VOTE!

Back in 2011 on August 29th we had a very serious and unfortunate tragedy occur in the borough which entailed the discovery of a body found on fire at Houtman Park. I reported on the matter in addition to the delcotimes.com at approximately 3:36pm. This is not something that happens in Media which naturally left the community not only shocked, but searching for
The Rose Tree Media School Board plays a big role for our communities and is a contributing factor for why families choose to move and stay here. As a kid, it certainly was for my family who weighed that decision and trusted that the schools here in Rose Tree Media would be of the highest quality. And now as a taxpayer, just as important. Recently Philly Magazine illustrated just how important
Dear Reader and Voter, I want to thank Dave Daniel from Upper Providence for the commentary post he submitted on Tuesday. It's refreshing to see a candidate outline the issues and tackle them head-on. In Media we've been fed statements such as, "Roll up our sleeves" and "Thinking outside the box," which doesn't mean anything. But I'm sure what I outline below will.
When I'm not writing this blog I'm out talking with residents in Media. Truthfully, I love going door-to-door and sharing stories about Media, as well as hearing them. Did you know that Blue Christmas made famous by the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley was written in Media, Pa? Here's the commemorative plaque that tells the story of Elvis' most famous
I always find interest in new technologies that provide simplicity and added convenience for users. This week, a new app was released by Setpa.org that provides a host of features the everyday commuter may find useful. Whether the bus, trolley or the Media/Elwyn Line, this app is quite extensive.
What you can expect is a clean user interface with useful features like “Start
Happy Halloween to all you trick or treat'ers out there this evening. It's a much better night then a year ago were some municipalities were considering moving Halloween to the weekend due to altered schedules and the debris in the neighborhoods caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Tonight it looks like everything is off to a good start. I can hear the kids going up and down the
There was a bit of excitement on State Street last night that definitely got the attention of the local fire companies. Not sure all the details, but a reader submitted a few photos of the incident that appears to have occurred after midnight.
As of this morning, there was no apparent damage to the businesses or buildings.
Tonight at 7pm EST we will be simulcasting Daily Times Editor, Phil Heron's discussion with County Candidates. On the list this evening we have Republicans contenders Dave White for County Council and Jen Holsten Maddaloni for Register of Wills. On the Democratic side we have two Media locals, Bill Clinton from Upper Providence and candidate for County Council, as well as, former Media Mayor
American Express is behind this small business marketing campaign, but I really think they hit the mark with getting the word out about what small businesses mean for the community. A video like this customized for Media, PA could be an excellent marketing tool for this town. Short (<~1min), engaging/fun (video store owners and customers), impactful and easy to distribute (promotional video
My name is David Daniel, I’m an Upper Providence Resident and current candidate for the First District seat on Township Council. Since I write “Media, PA” as my return address on every letter I send (yes, I still use the mail), I think the election in Upper Providence Township fits the theme of this blog. I want to thank Tedman for giving me
New Signal for Crum Creek, Rose Tree, State Rd. Intersection
Good local government includes good communication, which is not something we see here in Media. However, here's a site being updated by Upper Providence Council Chairman, Joe Solomon on the latest developments regarding the Rt. 252 project. This site also includes an area for comments should you have questions about individual
I guess I'm a history buff when it comes to the classic family owned restaurants in and around Media. Unfortunately some of my favorites are gone like the Long Horn Ranch and the Log Cabin Inn. However, one still remains which may be the most important one of all - The Towne House.
If you want to find out how Veteran's Square got it's name, you're in for a treat. This is a great article by
If you live in Media Borough, on November 5th you can elect a real leader for Mayor who will take the time and commitment to make Media the best it can be. I've written over 1,400 posts and heard thousands of comments of what's important to this town. When residents and businesses didn't have information or answers to important issues, I went looking for them to share with the
Septa - Pa Transportation Bill Funding - What has McMahon done?
I found it absolutely appalling that after 22 years as Mayor, Bob McMahon can't come up with anything better than generalizations and not committal statements, but that's been by careful design. This week on Patch.com he had the opportunity to communicate to Media on the state of Thirds Street Bridge and what his position is on
It looks like some type of soccer sporting goods store will be setting up shop at the former Sassy Girl location at 300 W. State Street. The windows are taped up, but where they aren't, they have interesting flatscreen TV's running soccer videos and clips from games.
Not since the famous Bill Battey's, has Media had any thing close to an athletics store. No word yet on what exactly this
10/24/13 9:02am Update: Per email, Media Borough is aware of the situation and taking the necessary steps to correct the problem.
Tonight I received a message that at least one of the pet waste stations in Media have been overflowing for the last three days. I don't have an answer for why this is happening, but I've reached out to the borough manager, Jeff Smith.
That's right, get you costume ready for the 49th Annual County Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 26. The event begins at 2pm on State Street, here in downtown Media, PA. This has not only grown into a holiday tradition, but is a local favorite among families.
We've had local ABC CH 6 Meteorologist, Cecily Tynan host this event the past two years, but no word on her attendance this year
Grace Winery doesn't need a video to show you how good their wine is and why this is one of the best places around, but they did one anyway. And a very good one at that!
Thanks for stopping by this Sunday morning. Grab a cup of coffee and sit back, I'll take it from here....
Where local news gets its news - ATM
Very interesting news about GRM this week and also Franklin Mint. A lot of people are concerned about how this will affect Media and I am too, because it will. As a candidate for mayor, I'm on top of these issues and cautiously
If you're into motorcycles or the Harley Davidson lifestyle, swing on over to Hannum's HD by the Granite Run Mall. They are having a big event today that's made up of a host of different categories. With plenty of bikes, merchandise, crafts, BBQ and chili, it's shaping up to be a nice get together. What could possibly go wrong with a mechanical bull setup in the parking lot?
Ed Rendell was in Media today on the courthouse steps expressing the need to support the PA transportation bill that includes financing for the Septa Media/Elwyn Line. He went on to say the we have the votes for this passage. However, just don't sit back just yet. Make sure you contact you local legislatures to let them know how vital this line is for Media and the surrounding
I know, I know.....people have been raving about the great Media Theatre production, Spamalot going on now. If you haven't yet seen it, it goes until Nov 3rd; so come out and see what everyone is talking about. As an added bonus, you'll get to experience one of the nicest theaters around, right here in Media, PA.
It's going to take a lot more than some of us to raise awareness for the Media/Elwyn Line, it's going to take all of us! I've been trying to spend what little time I have to see which legislators in the area are for this Transportation Bill and who is against it. As of this week, Representative Barrar was known to be leading against this legislation that included Septa funding. Tom Killion (
It didn't take long for things to start moving regarding the Granite Run Mall. This Nov 4th, BET the owner/developer will present their conceptual site plans to the Middletown Planning Committee.
The hits just keep on coming for Middletown Township. Not only were conceptual sketches and a site plan released for the GRM property yesterday, but just down the street the long stalled Franklin Mint project had a lawsuit break through that has restarted the effort. Per an article in the delcotimes, the developers are now moving forward and actively reaching out to potential tenants.
Earlier today Metro Commercial Real Estate released a proposed site plan for the upcoming make over of the Granite Run Mall. These renderings are very interesting, as they reflect the changes I was told of by someone close to the matter last Friday.
No time-frame released yet, nor is anything final as it is a proposed plan, but these changes are drastically different from what's there now.
If you rely on the Media/Elwyn line for your commute to University City, 30th Street Station, Center City or beyond, you'll understand the importance of keeping this service running without disruption. I know I certainly do and am in the process of contacting regional lawmakers to express the importance of this line and the need to support the PA Transportation Bill
I've chosen not to join the many who run throughout Media for exercise during the dark hours. A misplaced step on uneven terrain or a slip on the newly fallen leaves would be a catastrophic injury for me. I'm the type that can be easily injured from a bad nights sleep, so understand where I'm coming from.
Make sure you stand out when running in Media during evening hours!
If you haven't yet seen the new neon signs promoting Media Pizza and Grill on State Street, don't worry, you can't miss it. I believe they went up today. It lights up the whole street, like something out of Las Vegas or maybe a boardwalk restaurant in NJ. It makes everything else looked closed.
I don't know if these things come with a dimmer, but WOW is it bright. Luckily they don't blink!
It was bound to happen sooner or later, because you can't have just pizza without beer. Pinocchio's does a booming business with this model and now Double Decker Pizza is joining suit. Media's newest restaurant is making plans to bring a liquor license to their location at 415 E. Baltimore Avenue.
A public hearing is set for October 17th 7:30pm at
First and foremost, I'd like to thank those who reached out to me last week and offered to help with my campaign. I greatly appreciate that and glad to have you part of the cause. We have some great stuff planned, so stay tuned and get ready to have some fun.
With interesting news this week about Third Street Bridge, I wanted to share a story about why this still remains a mess
A total lack of leadership by Mayor Bob McMahon and Media Borough Council, may now cost the borough more than the price to repair a bridge. Two years ago an agreement and the funding were in place to do something, anything; to reestablish the bridge as it once was 18 years ago. Media borough council failed to take action on a situation that State of Pennsylvania found to be one of the most
Aside from Oktoberfest, Germany is known for many things, especially when it comes to building the ultimate driving machine. No, I'm not talking about a BMW, I'm talking about what looks like a pretty fun way of getting around by pedal power. Well, at least in Europe anyway.
Not sure if Media is ready for one of these, but it would be a neat way of traveling around state street during Dining
At about this time last year you may recall the lot clearing that took place at Edgmont and Jefferson Streets for proposed condominiums. That work was done and a start date to begin building was expected in April 2013. That came and went and the site has been empty ever since.
2012 Lot Clearing at Edgmont and Jefferson Streets
Looks like the original condominium plans have been scraped in
The best thing about this site is showing people doing great things for Media. I do it as much as I can and always take the time from whatever I'm doing to highlight these achievements. I take it very seriously, and when I see people inappropriately take credit for other people's work, especially politicians, I have a problem with that.
Last week Bob Dimond (tax collect), Mayor Bob McMahon,
I hope everyone had a good time at Media's Food Festival that was held today on State Street. I suppose an Eagles win makes it that much more fun and enjoyable. Well, it did for me.
Tonight, I want to introduce Media to a guy who you won't see at swanky political events, ribbon cuttings, or fancy dinners; but in my eyes he's a hero in Media.
Greetings, my name is Tedman O'Hara and the creator of this blog. I'm currently running for Mayor of Media because after 18 years of neglect and complacency, Media deserves more from this important position. I'm not looking to make this a career (two term limit), nor am I looking for compensation (I'll donate 100% of what I'm paid back to the community.)
I think the Media Food Festival which is tomorrow, needs to up its game. There was a time this didn't have crafts associated with it and was a regional hit with people looking to tryout the best food in the area. Remember the historic battles for Media's Best Crab Cake? The former Little Inn reigned supreme, but New Orleans Cafe and Packy's held there own at the time
Get ready for more of a good thing if you're a fan of Fellini's restaurant. With the Salad Stop now closed, plans are underway to expand Fellini's into this adjacent building.
I saw it coming a long time ago and even mentioned last year that the Wawa project would befall the same fate as Third Street Bridge: lack of leadership, communication, inability and personal agenda. We as a community have gotten too use to this, but perhaps this borough council is more inept then I give them credit for. I mean, if they can't figure out when to mail a letter, as was the case
You'll want to travel to Garnet Valley early to get a a good seat (and parking) for what will be a block buster of game with both teams 5-0. Penncrest has the best defense in the county, while GV has a non-stop offense that will surely make for a stellar game.
I'll try to provide game updates as they become available.
Borough Council will begin their workshop meeting tonight with opening statements by the project developers and comments from the community. The meeting begins at 6pm at Borough Hall and will go 90 minutes for this discussion.
What's at Stake? Tonight's meeting will set the stage for the final vote expected on Oct 19th during the monthly borough council meeting.
Over the last year people have been commenting on this blog and approaching me on the street with a need of having a skate park in the area. I agree, we need some good ideas for recreation areas for Media's youth, and much like I wanted one when I was younger, a skate park is still as popular as ever. (ed. note: we ending up building one of our own, but that's another story)
With October now here, there will be two very important borough meetings coming up that will decide the future of the proposed Wawa at Providence and Baltimore Ave.
Public comment and questions will be held Thursday, October 3rd at Borough Hall (6pm). This meeting will allow statements by the developers and comments for or against from the community. On October 17th, during the regular council
Yes, it's true. After 16 years, a Media institution has gone soft. Tonight while at John's Grille talking to people about the state of Media borough, I was taken back by a menu change in this iconic establishment. This is a pretty big news, as nothing really changes at John's other than the lightbulbs.....and I mean that in a good way.
The MOMS Club® of Media and the Granite Run Mall will host the 7th Annual Media area Pre-school & Beyond Fair on Wednesday October 23th, 6:30-9:00 pm on the lower level of the Granite Run Mall.
Parents in Media and surrounding areas are invited to attend this fair where representatives from many schools in the area will be available to provide information and answer questions. This is a free
For the last four years I've developed this site as a service to the community and a point of interaction for all of us to discuss and learn about matters important to Media, PA. Some controversial, some political, some funny, some informative, but most which have shown how great this town can be and the potential that lays ahead. At first, no one really payed attention to
It's the Last Sunday of The Month - Media VFW Breakfast Today 8:00 - 11:30am
I won't be cooking this month down at the Media VFW, but I will be there to support this great community event. They'll have a crowd today, so make sure you get their early.
The Media VFW has quite a few renovations happening with construction going on for a outdoor stage. They also
First off, thanks for the impromptu tour by the staff at the newly opened Marriott Hotel located next to the Springfield County Club. I was in the area last week and just couldn't drive by without going in. They were excited to showcase the place, as I was to take a tour.
This isn't your typical plain "side of the road" hotel and you'll notice that right when you walk through the entrance.
This is shaping up to be a big game, as 4-0 Penncrest will host the Springfield Cougars this evening. Kick-off is at 7pm with a big turnout expected on what will be a great Autumn night.
The Rose Tree Colts are holding their annual Homecoming Festivities on Sat October 5th at Rose Tree Elementary's Chief Hampton Field. The JV and Flag games start at 9am and then the Varsity kicks off at Noon with three games slated against Great Valley. There will be a VFW Honor Guard salute at Noon and we are asking all alumni to wear your old Colts apparel and parade onto the field led by Chief
Thanks to the community and Media Police Department for recovering the stolen bike reported yesterday on this site. I got a message late this afternoon that the bike has been reunited with one happy kid.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, there was eminent news about the future of the Granite Run Mall. Today it's official, BET Investments a real estate investment group owned by Toll Brothers have formally announced the purchase of the Granite Run Mall.
I received notification from a resident that they are reporting a kid's bike stolen from their front porch at the location of Edgemont and 4th Street. The incident occurred sometime between late last night and early this morning.
Here's a picture of the stolen bike. If you have any information, please contact the Media Police Department by dialing 911.
A lot of appreciation and Thanks today, so let's get started.
Best Dinner in Town! Thanks Campbell AME Church of Media
I hope a lot of you were able to try our last night's dinner by Campbell AME Church. For $10, it was the best deal in town and went to a great cause. I had the smoked chicken which was stellar. Ribs sold out early, so I asked the great folks there if
I've been talking to a lot of residents and businesses in Media for a big announcement I'll make soon, but during today's travels I was able to stop over at the Cambell AME Church of Media. They are on the corner of 3rd Street and N. Olive, but I can tell you, they've brought out their "A" game for the BEST dinner in Media tonight!
The grills are hot and they are taking orders for authentic BBQ
Congratulations to the Penncrest Football team who beat Lower Merion last night (48-7) making their record 4-0! This it the best start in the school's history. Correction: Since 1981. Next up is Springfield at home on Friday 9/27, 7pm.
Here's a run down of what happened at last night's game provided by gametimepa.com.
Nobody goes to a borough council meeting for the sheer excitement of it, but that's not to say peculiar things don't happen from time to time. At last night's Media Borough Council meeting a resident decided he had had enough. Displeased with what he thought was a poor investigation by the Media Police regarding the death of his cat, he decided to present a rather bizarre exhibit to support
The 3-0 Penncrest Lions go on the road this evening to take on tonight's opponent, Lower Merion. Kick-off is 7pm, so come out and support what is shaping up to be a run for the Central League title.
I'm working on quite a big announcement for Media here shortly that's taking up a lot of my time, but I just couldn't push Media in Two Minutes aside for that effort. Okay, this will be on the short side, but bear with me.
Media Food Bank Needs HELP! If you didn't see my piece earlier, please take a look. Media's Food Bank is in dire need of supplies (Canned goods, etc.). Please consider a
I've received quite a few messages this week informing me of the dire need the Media Food Bank has for food supplies. If you have anything in the way of canned goods you can spare, please consider donating to this cause. So here's what I'll do: For those who may not be able to get these supplies over the the Media Methodist Church - 350 W. State St., we will offer to come
In 1983 the R3 Line (Media/Elwyn) was closed for a year for needed repair on the Crum Creek Trestle. I was too you young to care about that back then, but with a lack of budget funding, we may have an issue on our hands, as reported by the delcotimes.com.
The future of the R3 Line and 101 Trolley (runs through Media) could be in jeopardy due to needed repairs that if not done, could shut down
Thought there was a lighting game delay called mid way through the 3rd quarter, it wasn't enough to stop Penncrest Lions Football from beating Conestoga. The Lions are now 3-0!
Come out and support the Penncrest Football team as they play Conestoga tonight at 7pm. Tonight's game will be the season home opener at Louis Scott Stadium. With the Lions 2-0, this will be BIG GAME!
An effort is underway that will to allow the borough to charge for Saturday parking on State Street. Technically, the meters stipulate payment is required Monday thru Saturday, but this has never been enforced. Now it looks like Borough Council is about to change that.
What are your thoughts? Should parking remain free on Saturday, especially on State Street, or should that change?
I don't know how much a Daily Times newspaper is these days, as I haven't bought one in years. Though, that's not to say I don't read it, as I do, but greatly prefer to view the county's news online.
As of today, it looks like the delcotimes.com has doubled down and feel their readers also share the same preference of online viewing. Today they've released a much anticipated total
I played with some, know others and am in awe of the rest! I'm talking about the Media Area Sports Hall of Fame, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. There are a lot of events in the Fall, but none that pique the local interest like this ceremony does. I hear a lot of speakers whether in politics, business, leadership events and/or sports, but to hear fellow alumni induct
Coach Chip Kelly may have a high powered offense and the excitement of Eagles fans, but we have a big game coming up too in this week's home opener for the Penncrest Lions. Beating the highly ranked Haverford Fords last week has Penncrest coming into this week's game 2-0.
After 19 months of Council President Brian Hall and Borough Council stringing along Wawa and their proposal to build a store here; you would think they would at least have the common courtesy to not waste their time. That wasn't the case last Thursday when Brain Hall prevented open discussion on the Wawa project by people who were there to do just that.
The Great Media Garage Sale After 27 years, this event is still holding up and continues to draw a crowd. Whether you buy or sell something, or not, it's a nice day for Media.
Delaware County Fair I haven't been to the county fair in years, though it looks like Granite Run Mall will be hosting one this September. The reason I bring it up
A special thanks for the invite today to attend the soft opening of Media newest pizza restaurant - Double Decker Pizza. After many months of renovations, this place was well worth the wait. The first thing I noticed when walking in tonight was the smart and tasteful decor. It's clean, spacious and has a second floor. You want to watch your favorite team? They got that covered too with a
The borough is lively this morning with many shoppers arriving to take part in Media's Great Garage Sale. The official start is 9am, but as anyone knows, the best stuff goes quickly and that means being first in line.
Spinning through town, there are quite a few tables up with a wide array of items. C'mon out, there's something here for everyone.
Over the last 36hrs there have been postings throughout town for a missing cat (Reuben). Reuben was last seen in the N. Monroe area. If you have any information, please call the number below.
Get ready for Media's Great Garage Sale throughout the borough this weekend. Starting at 9am and going to 4pm, this is a town tradition that's in its 27th year. And as always, the goal for sellers is to bring back less to your garage or basement, than what you brought out. Good Luck with that!
Historically, early birds start showing up around 7am to peruse the best deals, but this is an all
It would be easy to say it's Labor Day and take the this weekend off, but what fun would that be. Sit back, drink you coffee - It's Media in Two Minutes
Congrats to Penncrest Football. No Media Bowl This Year? Friday night Penncrest went on to win their season opener against Upper Merion 20-0. Next week (9/6) Penncrest is on the road
A handwritten sign posted on the front entrance of the Lukoil gas station in Media, confirms the location has been closed for good as of 8/28/13. It's not clear if the proposal for a new Wawa in the area had any influence on this closure, but this raises a compelling question: Does this further the need for a new Wawa across the street?
Open mic, performances, face painting, games and some of the best hospitality around. You may have seen some signs around the borough for Media Unity Day.......so here it is!
Also, check out the Media Unity Day Facebook page!
Media Unity Day is a welcoming day of celebration and fellowship for the citizens of the Media Borough, past, present, and future.
Ready or not, there's one weekend left in the Summer of 2013. That'll mean a lot of things to a lot of people, but one thing is for sure........local football is about to kick-off!
This Saturday starts the opening of the Rose Tree Colts season with a parade that day. For more information check out their announcement this week. However, before that, we have the season opener for Penncrest
FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!! ROSE TREE COLTS READY TO ROCK!!!!
OPENING DAY PARADE THIS SATURDAY MORNING!! Come out and support your Rose Tree Colts on Saturday 8/31 as we kickoff our season at home (Rose Tree Elementary) vs Brandywine, DE!!The Colts have plenty of excitement planned with a parade of players and our award winning cheerleaders. There has been a slight change in the parade route. The
I'd like to take a quick minute to recognize the efforts of the group (Media Rotary and DCTMA) that put together the program that allowed for the installation of three new bike racks in Media. I believe two are up, with the other to be done shortly, if it hasn't been already. Here's what I like: They took the initiative and time to see an idea through, while including the help of people that
Come by tomorrow to check out one of the best breakfast buffets in town....or anywhere. The great folks at the Media VFW put together this community event on the last Sunday of each month. I'll be down there cooking omelets again and look forward to seeing everyone!
VFW Post 3460 Reminder Aug. 25, 2013 Sunday Buffet Breakfast this Sunday from 8:30 till 11:30am. A variety of breakfast foods
Come out and support your Rose Tree Colts on Saturday 8/31 as we kickoff our season at home (Rose Tree Elementary) vs BYC!!The Colts have plenty of excitement planned with a parade of players and our award winning cheerleaders, from the Fire House with Police/Fire Escort starting at 8:15am. The Flag and JV games begin at 9am and then the Varsity takes
I'd like to recognize the Media Rotarians and the DCTMA (Delaware County Transportation Management Association) for their efforts towards supplying bike racks for Media. They not only came up with the idea, but raised the money needed through generous donations from the community. As an added plus, everyone had a good time making this happen, as I'm told the fundraiser held at Generations
Someone has taken a lot of time to let Media know they are having an estate sale this Friday and Saturday. They've posted flyers on almost every street corner.
I was on the road this weekend and wasn't able get to Media in Two minutes in the way I normally do. After a few texts wondering where it was, I've pulled out the laptop to fulfill the wishes of the faithful readers. Thank you, I'm flattered.
Ok, let's go!
The Mousetrap People here love to take a walk down memory lane, and truth be told, so do I. This week there were a few comments on the
It didn't take but 10 minutes before someone came up to me and said, "Did you hear the news?" I replied, "I must not have, what happened?" It was then I was told of an unlikely theft that still has me shaking my head in disbelief.
Last Friday afternoon, someone came up to Jack's Tavern and stole their BBQ smoker out of their parking lot. I'm not talking an oversized Weber grill you throw in
You'd think you were driving into a car wash with all the rain water cascading down, but what it really is is the Olive Street parking garage in Media. Borough Council has known about this for at least 18 months and still, nothing gets done!
A word of caution: People who have parked in this garage and who have had this water running over their cars have filed insurance claims because of paint
For this evening's concert at Rose Tree Park, the Hot Club of Philadelphia will be performing. This group plays hot Gypsy Jazz from the 1930s and 1940s. You can check them out on their Facebook page. Show starts at 7:30pm.
Media Retail Takes Another Hit It wasn't on the scene that long, but another retail store on State Street will be closing at the end of August. This store is located on the Western side of town.
Media's Last Used Car Dealership Disappears! I never saw a salesman out front, nor did I see any activity inside, but it looks like Media's last used car dealership located on
GOOD NEWS! The Media Family Movie Night is scheduled for this evening at Barrall Field. The show starts at dusk and the feature is - The Lomax by Dr. Seuss.
If you live on the northern side of Media, you may have heard what sounded like fireworks at 3:30am Saturday morning. It was a LOUD pop, followed a few seconds later with three other pops. It was disturbing enough to wake people up from Sixth Street, on over to N. Olive and perhaps beyond. Some have questioned, including me whether they could have been gunshots. Being it
They've been working on this for a bit, but the new scoreboard is up and looks great. With recent upgrades to the stands over the last few years and a lush field that I've never seen look better, the Louis Scott Stadium looks fantastic! A great stadium worthy of a great man.
A special thanks to the PHS Athletic Boosters and Class of 2013 for helping make this addition possible. Not sure what
Media's known for a lot of things, but one aspect that resonates with people who know, is the intricate and victorian architecture that makes up the town. Preservation Alliance has a lot of great neighborhoods on their list, but coming up is their tour of Media Borough.
The folks at Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia wants to let you know about a guided walking tour of Media that
Bring your chairs and blankets, it's a great night for the Rose Tree Park Summer Series. Playing tonight, the Plants! A 4-piece local band plays fun, funky doo-wop music for kids. Catchy tunes with imaginative lyrics from a snake who wears flip-flops to intergalactic insects. You can check them out on their Facebook site.
A special thanks this week to the Media VFW. I was invited down there to help with their Sunday breakfast buffet they had last weekend. It's quite a daunting task to cook made-to-order omelets there on the spot with a line of people in front of you. I probably cooked 50 or so, which wasn't so bad once everything was dialed in. Thanks!
There's been chatter this week that there may be a deal on the table for the Granite Run Mall. As reported months ago, this property is up for sale, free and clear for the Mall complex and adjacent buildings (not including Riddle Ale House and Hannum's Harley Davidson). That's about 57 acres with an estimated appraised value around $27 million from what I understand.
I'd like to recognize Mayor Linder of Chester for what I thought was a great service announcement to businesses in his town. This is exactly what I'm talking about when I mention enthusiasm, passion and interacting with the community. This is also reflects a good knowledge of business opportunity, which is crucial in advocating economic development. Kudos to Google too, who I'm sure produced
Aside from this blog, If you want to see what else I'm bringing to the table, almost literally, swing down to today's Media VFW breakfast buffet. I've been asked to work the made-to-order omelet station, but don't panic, my culinary skills are much better than my poor attempts at humor.
Great things happen when the community pitches in to help one another, and this
Come by tomorrow to check out one of the best breakfast buffets in town....or anywhere. The great folks at the Media VFW put together this community event on the last Sunday of each month.
VFW Post 3460 ReminderJuly 26, 2013 Sunday Buffet Breakfast this Sunday from 8:30 till 11:30am. A variety of breakfast foods available. Support your post and enjoy a good breakfast. Bring your family and
If you like dining under the stars here in Media, you may even like it more with a movie. This Thursday night, Ariano's restaurant will be featuring Cinema Peroni outside on Olive Street. The street will be blocked off with a movie screen setup. With a natural slope, this could be Media's newest ampitheatre dining experience.
Here's a great 5K race coming up! Lace'm up and come out and support a GREAT community Swim Club!
Join Us for the third annual 5K race to benefit the Riddlewood Swim Club! There will be a 5K race and a 1.5 mile walk starting and ending at the pool. It's a beautiful course in Delaware County and will be a lot of really challenging fun! The course is hilly, but is mostly shaded, and on lightly
Not since the close of their world famous diner has Lima, Pa received this bad of news. The Wawa Store on Baltimore Pike and Rt. 452 will be closing its doors for good tomorrow after 32 years of appreciated service. If you're around, they'll be serving free coffee to mark this historical event. You can read the formal statement below, but it seems the store has decided to
Pretzel Crisps Follows ATM? I'm intrigued by companies that follow this blog. This week Pretzel Crisps jumped onboard and is now a follower of ATM on Twitter. Why would company like this follow a local blog about community related items; I have no idea. However they do have over 250,000 likes on Facebook, so what do I know.
Congratulations to the Media Area Girls Softball Team on their win last night! Media is becoming well know for its championship teams with these ladies now joining that circle as the Midget C North Delaware Valley CHAMPIONS!
Media Youth Rugby Club goes international. Here's an update on their upcoming event.
Westhill Academy of Aberdeen Scotland will be playing the Media youth rugby club at Rose Tree School. Kickoff At 600PM free admission.....post game gathering $5.00.
UPDATE: 5:00pm EST - Penndot expects to have sink hole fixed and road opened, as soon as this Friday 7/19 barring any major damage or weather delays.
The Media Police have confirmed that N. Orange Street between Media and Upper Providence has been closed due to a sink hole. A steel plate has been placed over the small bridge by the Hickory Valley
Sketch of 252 Widening Project in Upper Providence
This seems to have been in planning for years, but an article in this week's Town Talk by Susan Serbin explains the widening of Rt. 252 is about to begin. Penndot is set to release RFPs in the next few weeks, with a decision determining contractor/s in mid-October.
Preliminary work is expected to begin by the end of 2013 and will continue
Back in February of this year I took a look at the proposed Reserve at Rose Tree site slated for development on Baltimore Pike. You may have seen the sign posted on your way to the Granite Run Mall from Media. At that time, there wasn't much going on other than a fancy sign indicating the future development.
This week, things are beginning to move forward on this
If you live in the vicinity of 5th Street and Monroe, you may be experiencing a decrease in electricity or no electricity at all. Peco has identified the issue and has assistance in route to fix the problem, which involves replacing a faulty transformer. They believe the time to fix will be a couple of hours. I've asked for an update should the outage
A Special THANKS this week to avid ATM reader, Michael Jordan for the kind letter he submitted to the delcotimes.com on why he likes this blog and what it's done for the community. Much appreciated.
Don't forget today's Car Show being held on State Street 10am to 3pm.
Ok, Let's Go!
Black Hawk Spring - Fondly Remembered I had a great time writing this week about the old Black Hawk Spring and
Here's a nice write-up on Media by the Brandwine CVB who recently promoted Everybody's Hometown as a great day-trip experience. There's a host of good segments describing the vibe and feel of Media, but one that jumped out at me was the proud display of a milkshake, but not just any milkshake concoction.
I was informed today that Broomall Lake Swim Club filed a vandalism report recently with the Media Police for an incident that included defacement of their property at the location of Fourth and Lemon Streets.
Historically this is one of my favorite events Media has. It gets better each time and this year 300 classic car are expected consisting of all makes and models. Keep your Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf home, this is all about high torque, high horsepower American made muscle cars. They usually have a foreign section too, which I find just as interesting. Was there a more dominating car then
If you and your family like the outdoors and watching movies, well you're in luck. Media Family Movie night is back at Barrall this Saturday. The featured movie is shown on a two-story movie screen that brings back the look and feel of a drive in movie theater.
This is a well liked event by Media residents, so make plans to get there early. For whatever reason, the movie title that will be
Like anything else, as of July 1st, 2013, you'll be paying a bit more to take public
transportation in and out of Media, PA. Rate hikes went into effect earlier this month. If you get a weekly train pass to center city, that'll now cost you $44, which is two dollars more than what it was before. For a complete listing of rates check out SEPTA's site.
It's awesome to see people get involved in the community and when inspiration takes hold great things WILL happen. The Media Rotary club will be hosting a Quizzo's event on July 17th at Generations Restaurant to raise funds for a community bike rack here in Media.
I hear a lot of people talk about bike friendless, so here's your chance to get involved. Imagine the difference we can make by
If you haven't lived in the area for longer then 20 years, you may have no idea what I'm talking about. However, if you have, you'll remember at one time you could drive just outside of Media to get pure spring water flowing out of open public spigots over by Tyler Arboretum. If you drive down Barren Road in Middlletown, you can still see the remnants of this location about halfway between
Tomorrow evening an important Planning commission meeting will take place that may decide the fate of the proposed Wawa at the location of Baltimore Avenue and Providence Road. You may remember the custom designed concept Wawa presented back in May that was truly unique for this company. People were so interested in it, the story went viral for a local town.
This Thursday, July 11th will be Media Fire Company Night at Rita's Water Ice.
Media has a great history of people who have servered their community. Since 1891 the Media Fire Department has been a volunteer company. If you have the time to volunteer or know someone who'd like to, please check out their site that has a listing of what the positions entail, associated training and FAQs.
In the grand sceme of things, this may not rate high, but the Penncrest scoreboard is gone. Are they putting up a fanavision? In passing, someone told me something about this, but I can't remember the reason for the change.
Robertson's Barbershop I wrote about the opening of a new barbershop on N. Olive street a few weeks ago, but can report
Traffic from Right and Left Does Not Stop at 4th and Orange.
If Media Borough is not going to put up stop signs at 4th and Orange, then there is no reason not to put up a sign that alerts drivers that traffic (perpendicular) from the left and right does NOT STOP. It's only a matter of time before someone get hurts here, or worse: because this intersection isn't properly marked. About 6
A special thanks to a reader who told me that he setup his Mom's IPAD with a icon that links to directly to ATMpa. He said, "that's all she needs."
Wow, thanks for the kind words and support!
Ok, Let's Go!
Media VFW - Last Sunday of the Month BREAKFAST At 8:30 this morning the doors open up for one of the no longer, best kept secrets in Media. That's right, c'mon by for the best
I haven’t been to a professional bodybuilding competition before, but it was nice to see the Media Theatre host this event. The morning show was awesome, with contestants coming from all over to compete for the NFC Philadelphia Championship and Tracey Greenwood Classic. There were young people, older people, photographers, music and a lot of cheering going on for everyone on stage.
There was a time when virtually every municipality in the county had some kind of 4th of July event or fireworks show. Believe me, as a kid my parents took us to them all because that was what the 4th of July was all about. That even included Media who had a their own event at Glen Providence Park. Can you imagine watching fireworks at Glen Providence Park as a community?
Okay, here we go....... People will begin arriving in the area tonight to cheer on 200 fitness contestants for tomorrow's qualifier Championship. The event will be hosted at the Media Theatre with registration starting at 8:30am. Pre-judging begins at 11:30, with finals
scheduled for 6:30pm.
For those coming from out of town, we have a host of great eateries, shops and bars within walking
The recent pressure by Media Borough Council and the Friends of the Glen Providence to have the DEP lower Broomall Lake is beginning to take a toll on the wildlife that relies on this refuge. Here's a picture submitted by a reader showing one of potentially many victims who are being evicted from a century old lake.
F.R.O.Gs get preferred treatment while Turtles go belly up.
This is something you don't see everyday in Media and that's what caught my attention. Great display here by First Baptist Church on N. Jackson Street, who did a nice job marketing their upcoming program, Son West Round Up. If you'd like to learn more about this event, check out their very well done website.
At some point you're going to need a good mechanic, tailor and barber. Luckily, you can find all of them in Media, but one that has just arrived on the scene may set the standard for cutting hair. Last weekend, I swung by the newly opened Robertson's Barber Shop located on N. Olive and Jasper Street to find Mark putting the final touches on his new business.
Congratulation to all the runners at this year's Media 5 Miler 2013. I know the participants had one heck of a time. A special thanks to the Media Police, EMS and many volunteers, who without them, we would not be able to have this popular event.
Media's Best Band - The Broozers at Media's 5 Mile Race
I heard from one business on State Street that Friday night was one of their biggest
News travels quick and so does the excitement of Media's latest restaurant, Buddy's Burgers, Breasts and Fries. Located at the former site of Zac's burger on State and Orange, this place is ready to go and officially open. For the latest on what they are serving, check out their twitter feed that will also be hosted here. Nice Job! Welcome to Media, PA!
Tomorrow's the big day for Media as racers and spectators gather for the 5 Mile Race. There was a community announcement made via phone this afternoon by the borough, but if you're not signed up for that notification service and didn't receive the message, here's what you need to know.
Starting tomorrow at 4pm the Media Police will begin to cordon off traffic in
The car charing station Media implemented awhile back technically wasn't a bad idea, but it didn't amount to much, as there wasn't any electric car market to really support it. No one is apparently looking to wait hours to charge their car behind the Media Firehouse, while shopping and dining in Media. What validates this is, no one has. Perhaps that'll change in due time, but even if a full
The State of Pennsylvania and Delaware County have done a great job with providing a Veteran's Museum at the former armory in Media. It's free, it's informative and it's located in the heart of town on State Street. I had a chance to stop in this weekend to check out what's going on. What I thought would be a five minute visit turned into more than an hour, as the museum provides a
We had the US PGA Open last week, but what really makes this town shine is the upcoming Media 5 Miler Race this Friday. Make sure to support our local businesses that are more than happy to accomodate your race needs. Need soda and beer? None better than home town County Beverage on Monroe Street. They have a great selection of keg beer, cases and
Two big events coming up this week: Kick-off of the Rose Tree Park Summer Music series this Wednesday and Media's Mardi-Gras.........The 5miler race on Friday, June 21st!
Ok, Let's go.
How'd Everybody Do for the US Open? I don't think Media fared so well. The only thing I saw highlighting the whole event was a ad posted in a bar bathroom on State Street. Yes, there
Get ready! Next Wednesday is the start of the very popular Rose Tree Park Summer Music Series. This is the 39th year of the event that has become a county tradition. Here's a great article in the Daily Times highlighting the event, the performers and what you need to know as a participant.
For the longest time I drove by this building on Brooke Street(behind Dean Keys Towing) and had no idea what it was. What intrigued me was what looked like an unusually long slide on the right side of the build. Sort of like a two-story staircase but with out the stairs. From what I'm told, it was originally built as a slaughter house for days when Media had those
Hold on a second, I wasn’t talking about “THAT BRIDGE,” but the announcement last week in the Delcotimes regarding Middletown’s bridge on Old Forge Rd. This whole project was done with no exorbitant cost overruns or delays. This is what happens when you have a plan, leadership and commitment. This is also what happens when you don't have a councilman
The Rose Tree Colts are having a FREE, 3-day Summer Skills Session starting at the end of June. These sessions are open to all boys and girls, ages 5 and up. We will offer skills challenges, fundamental drills, and flag football games. The focus of these Skills Sessions:
Learn the fundamentals of the game of football Meet the players and coaching staff of the Colts, and other
Thanks to a reader this week for the nice compliments regarding this blog. She was interested in July's firework shows and when they would be posted. We haven't had fireworks in Media since 1986 and since that time many communities have discontinued the tradition. I'll post something when the Fourth of July draws closer.
Ok, let's go.
Media Blues Stroll Congratulations to the organizers of
BAZAAR OF ALL NATIONS DOCUMENTARY RETURNS TO WHYY TV12 IN JUNE
BY POPULAR DEMAND
A 59-minute edit of the White Lyte Productions film Bazaar of All Nations returns to WHYY TV 12 on June 13th at 10:30PM and June 23rd at 5PM. The documentary focuses on the still beloved early proto-mall which stood on Baltimore Pike in Upper Darby, PA from 1960-1993 and had vast impact on the
Let's set aside the fact that Custom Bagel has the best "everything, bacon, egg and cheese bagel" in the world and talk about customer service. I know a person who lost their smartphone in Media this week and in this day in age, that's a pretty serious and nerve racking experience. Not only was it found, but Custom Bagel attempted to call the
There must be a lucrative market for businesses purchasing gold, as I noticed a store on S. Olive now offers this service too. Not sure how long they've been there as a "We Buy Gold" store, but that makes two of these stores in Media.
I read the books, looked at the pictures and saw the movies. When the doors opened up on those landing ships and our troops hit the beach, all Hell broke loose. During the onset, if you were even able to make it to the beach alive, you were the exeption.
Media, Pa has a proud history in supporting our veterans. Thanks to each and everyone who served our country, especially those on D-Day.
They were in business for about two years, but now no longer. Jigsaw Home Solutions located on N. Olive off of State Street has vacated their location. Not sure if they relocated, as their website doesn't provide details, but either way, here is another business that has moved on from Media or is no more.
One of my biggest concerns for this town is the noticeable decline of retail commerce in Media. This week a retail business on State Street is closing its doors. The sign in the windows says retirement sale, but if you've ever stopped in and talked to some of these store owners, you'll find that "retirement" is often forced due to lagging sales. A lot of these stores are challenged by high rent
I like fireworks, I like kids and I like Dining Under the Stars. What I don't particularly enjoy are kids throwing fireworks (Snaps) while people are dining under the Stars. This was a problem last year, but tonight it really went too far. At around 7pm, I wasn't even at Jasper Street walking towards State before I heard the the all too familiar "
6/2 Update: Here's a link for all your drinking please during Beer Week:
Not sure why it's called "Beer Week" in Media when it's only one day, but that's what I'm told. Come Thursday, June 6th you'll get to taste what beer is all about with samples provided that day by Long Trail Draft throughout the bars in Media.
Ok, so it's not what I would call "ground breaking," as far as events go in
Sandwiches, desserts, water ice and everything in between was featured at today's Italian Festival at Rose Tree Park today. They had an impressive display of cars that made Italy famous and even a Bocce Ball tournament.
Media is at its best when it helps each other. The true spirit of Media and the one thing that is unique to this town, is that people look after one another. And that's exactly why it's called Everybody's Hometown.
We had a great example of that yesterday for an event that was held at Joclyn's to raise
Today's Memorial Day Parade starts at 10am on State Street, but don't forget it's the last Sunday of the month and that means the best breakfast in town is down at the Media VFW. They'll have a post ceremony and cook-out too.
SUNDAY BUFFET BREAKFASTS: Breakfast is served the last Sunday of the month from 8:30am till 11:30am. No Breakfast July and August. Pictured below are Joe Kelsall (Omlet
Former Citi Bank Building on Baltimore Ave (behind Trader Joe's)
The Citi Bank building vacated in March may have a new tenant soon, and guess what? It's a bank! Not a new bank, but one I'm told that will be moving from State Street to this custom made structure Citi Bank had built when they first moved in. Part of the draw is the drive-thru window that no bank on State Street has other than
With Media Little League being State Champs last year and now Media Rugby joining the club, this town is becoming known for excellence. Congratulation to the Media Rugby U13 for being Media's latest state champions.
First thing first, thank you to those who stop me on the street to say how much they like this blog. I really appreciate that and hope it provides a decent insight to what goes on in this town. As for my poor attempts at humor? Hey, how else can I have fun on here. Ha!
A special thanks to the gentleman who moved to Media from NJ. He likes the blog and told me it keeps him up to date.
If you've already gotten your tickets for today's Brandywine Valley Craft Brewers Festival, consider yourself lucky - It's Sold Out. That's not really surprising as this sells out every year. The reason being, it's one of the best events around and marks the prelude to the kick-off of Summer.
With beer samples provided by 25 local/regional breweries, the price of admission ($45) is a
Had I been at last night's council meeting where they showed a video about Media narrated by Terry Bradshaw, I would have demanded our money back right on the spot. This is the 4:19 minute video that took 10 months to produce at a cost to Media Taxpayers of $20,000. At that much money, this is nothing more than a scam by a celebrity voice over. Interesting enough, the company who produced it
This week I learned that the chair of the Media Business Authority, Kevin Schramm has resigned from his position. I didn't know Kevin well, but I've always heard great things about his vision and leadership he had with the group of volunteers that oversaw the well being of Media's businesses. Unfortunately, this resignation adds to a long list of concerns that has plagued this committee.
As things are shaping up, Media Elementary is on schedule to be back home on Monroe and State Street this Fall. Not only did the temporary re-location over the last year at Nativity work out great, it was handled extremely well by Superintendent, Jim Wigo, RTM School Board, teachers, faculty and students. Nice Job, Everyone!
So as things get back to normal at Media Elementary, what'll happen
If you have time to spare, please consider helping out at your local polling places for the upcoming primary on May 2st. Each election cycle many of the polls are short staffed with workers who have to ensure the voting machines are working and voters are properly checked in. It's a long day, but if more people participated by even spending a few hours, it
The skate board creed doesn't allow me to divulge the location of Media's impromptu skate board park, but I now know where it is. In fact, I saw a parent drop their kid off there to partake in what looks like some of the best skating around. As long as the kids are safe, having fun and not bothering anyone or damaging property; I'm fine with what they are doing.
What makes a community are the families! And the backbone that makes that happen are all the great Mothers out there. Happy Mothers day, especially to all the single mothers. You women are the strongest beings to walk this earth. All my best, Tedman
Skunks, a bumper crop this year?
Spring is in the air and so is the all too familiar scent of Media's skunk population. On particularly
Mayor Bob McMahon is actively calling residents in the community trying to garner support for his re-election. Do you think you'd hear from him any other time? A few people have contacted me complaining about this, because he's also apparently asking about their party affiliation.
If you receive a call make sure you ask him the following! I'm sure the
They've been doing it for over 50 years! No one knows Mother's Day like Bevan's Chocolate does. Stop on by for locally made candy that that's always a hit!
Wawa goes the extra mile with a new design made specifically for the proposed Media site. As shared by the Media First Team who are candidates running for Media borough council this May 21st; this concept shows a dedication towards this town with a one of a kind vision.
Would a Walgreens, which is a potential alternative for this site go to this length for Media?
Newsweek ranks Penncrest as one of the top high schools in the country. Nice job by the students, teachers, faculty and school board for making education
a priority for our communities!
Penncrest Makes Newsweek's Ranking as One of America's Best High Schools!
The Rose Tree Colts recently held their bi-annual “helmet” collection at the Acme in Media PA. Acme has generously reached out to the Colts as a valuable partner in support of the Colts efforts to raise funds that will allow for upgrade of Equipment and Helmets. Pictured are Colts Partner of the Year, Acme Store Director Steve Hallinan and Colts President, Kevin Skowronek, surrounded by a host
If you enjoy Media's Starbucks on the corner of Baltimore Ave and Providence Road, you may like it a lot more now that renovations are underway. From what I'm told, the tables and chairs along the windows will be removed and replaced with a long counter and stools. With people often "camping" out to use the internet access, this should free up more space
Here's something you don't hear everyday, but Media's CVS Pharmacy was the victim of a counterfeiter who last week made a $3.14 purchase and paid with a bogus $50 bill. Apparently the bill was bleached and reprinted, which with today's printer technology, is a well known tactic by counterfeiters.
Delcotimes covers the story with a picture of the suspect.
Fundraiser for a documentary being made by a Penncrest Alumni! May 7th between 6pm and 10pm, bring the flyer to Cold Stone and your purchase goes to helping a great cause! Plus, ice cream is always delicious!
Best Breakfast in Town - Media VFW! That's right! On the last Sunday of every month, the Media VFW holds an All-You-Can-Eat breakfast for $8. There's plenty of parking, plenty of food and a very nice atmosphere provided by this group. I appreciate them having me last Sunday. I'll be back!
Mystery has struck Media over who picks up the tab for the electricity to power the white lights that outline the buildings on State Street. They are turned on during Christmas Holidays and are used during Wednesday's Dining Under the Stars, but there doesn't seem to be a straight answer on who picks up the bill. Is it businesses? The Media Business Authority?
If you plan to be in Media on Friday or Saturday, May 10th or 11th, don’t leave home without first putting a poem in your pocket. Why? So you can share it with your favorite store owner and earn a treat or discount.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Rose Tree Media School District libraries will sponsor Poem in Your Pocket, a week-long celebration of
One size fits all for Mayor McMahon and Boro Council
You don't have to walk a mile in Media Borough Council's shoes, as apparently four feet will do. With an article in today's Media Patch, the issue now holding the Third St. Bridge project up and costing further expense is Media Borough Council's demand that the width of the bridge be 28' instead of 32' which is being required by Delaware
May 5th is International Permaculture Day. Transition Town Media (TTM) is celebrating with a family-friendly, fun-packed event at the Media Community Center, 301 N. Jackson St., Media, PA, on Sunday, May 5th from noon-3 pm.
The day’s activities include a Potluck Lunch, fun, hands-on children’s activities, a talk about Permaculture and its benefits
Recently, Media, PA has provided a backdrop for a couple of commercials over the last few months. This week, another one was shot by local resident and candidate for District Judge, Toni Cavanagh Dimonte. The commercial below is expected to run in local area tv markets.
Big News This Week! Kick-off of Dining Under the Stars This upcoming Wednesday evening in Media will be packed with the season kick-off Dining Under the Stars. Get your chalk ready kids, bring an appetite and come enjoy the best Media has to offer in the world of culinary excellence. Outdoor dining on State Street is back!
If you've been to Europe, especially along the coast of the Mediterranean, you'll find that outdoor dining is more the norm than indoor dining. Here in Media, especially on Wednesdays during Dining Under the Stars, that's also true but only one day out of the week. This isn't because of the weather, it's not because of lack of popularity, and it's certainly not
If you ever walked a mile in Walter Pileggi's shoes, you'd clearly understand character, integrity and a compassion for Media that has never been replaced. His leadership and love for the community made an important impact on many, me included. We Miss You Walter!
I can't think of a better Girls Night Out for the ladies than one hosted by Fabulous Shoe Night in honor of Walter.
I can't remember in recent times, if ever, Media had a bodybuilding contest; however, that's about to change! Coming in June, the Philadelphia Championships and Tracey Greenwood Classic will be hosted at the Media Theatre. This will be a big event with many contestants coming from out of town to compete in this all day championship. Prejudging will start at noon, with the finals starting at
Ask anyone making this left hand turn off of Ridley Creek Road on to Baltimore Pike and they'll all agree, it's dangerous. It's bad enough in an automobile, but in a school bus full of kids it has to be terrifying. This was a photo sent to me by a concerned mother who like many are angry that Media Borough has chosen politics over the safety of the community. What you don't see is that these
You won't be ordering drinks and food from an Ipad menu anytime soon at John's Bar and Grille, especially tofu and humus. However, technology is making a debut here, which I don't think I'll ever be able to say about tofu. I don't know how long they've had it, but people wanted me to know that they are excited to use the internet access at this well known watering hole.
With a month to go before the May Primary, things are heating up in the District Judge race. Local candidate, Toni Cavanagh Dimonte shows Media she's ready with a billboard at Providence and State Roads.
Good Morning! Before we start, I'd like to recognize the the people I met last week at an event who told me they really like reading this blog. For a guy who never liked writing and had the grades to prove it, I appreciate the in-person comments tremendously. Thanks for reading! This is actually the 1,200th post to this blog with about 115 drafts I've yet to publish and probably won't (old
A special THANKS to Drew and Heather Arata of Earth and State for putting together what will surely be a huge event to help fight cancer. If you haven't heard of Frog Holler, they're BIG......like "Sell Out The Venue Big!"
Check out Earth and State for more information and ticket purchases.
Are issues like the Third Street Bridge and the possibility of a new Wawa in Media important to you? To varying degrees I think they would be, along with what will happen to Media's hotel, future use of the Nativity school property, a new library, community/economic/business development and the empty lots throughout town.
One thing that makes a great community is the strength of its schools. Congratulations to the members of the school board and Rose Tree Media School District for being ranked 13th out of 533 school districts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The report was compiled by www.schooldigger.com who ranks school districts from around the country.
I can't think of anything that makes a town prouder, than a well known resident who writes a book about the experience and achievements they've had here in Media. Author, John "Jack" Lemon's book, Black Gold - The African American Athlete at Media High School 1915 - 1966, does just that!
Congratulations to Jack Lemon for the vast amount of research and effort he put forth to make this book
Thanks for reading this week. I'm going to try to keep today's post on the sort side. It's early, but I'm still getting a late start to writing this.
I want to thank the lady I met on Thursday evening at the Towne House while I was leaving an event. She took the time to tell me how much she enjoys this blog and likes what it is all about. No matter how busy, I always make time to talk to
When the trolley rolled up this afternoon on State Street there was a line of photographers looking to get the perfect picture. Wow, does the Media Trolley look great with it's retro wrapping on to celebrate it's 100th birthday.
Come by tomorrow at 9am to see the trolley parked out front of the Media Theatre for a showcase event of this historic mode of transportation.
Here's Septa's official press release on the 100 year celebration of the Media Trolley to take place at tomorrow's Super Sunday. You can't think of Media without also recognizing the iconic trolley that has made this town unique. Septa will be providing a specially wrapped trolley replicating a historical trolley-car of the era.
A special "Thanks" to Councilwoman, Monika Rehoric who was
Sometimes if you not paying attention you don't realize what events are coming up in Media, like me. I must admit, the event banners they put up on each end of town across Baltimore Ave and Providence road really do get the message out. And when they don't, these events seem to come out of no where.
Springtime Super Sunday April 14, 2013
Two great events this weekend: On Saturday you have
A letter in today's Delcotimes by a Media Borough Counicwoman questioning the antics and motives by her colleagues over the Third Street bridge just goes to show how dysfunctional and poorly managed this group is. Atleast Monika Rehoric and Dawn Roe bring light to this situation and present it to the public. Poor leadership is a bad reflection on Media and has already begun to take a toll on
Over the last couple weeks I heard some rumblings that the Towne House Restaurant and Bar was for sale. That not only concerned me but made me think how lucky we are to have this iconic family owned restaurant in town for all these years. With out being able to confirm it, I didn't bring it up. I've written about the bygone days of the Long Horn Ranch and the Log Cabin Inn and how fondly
A company from New York has been retained by Granite Run Mall ownership to solicit qualified investors to acquire the 57 acre property free and clear. That means this whole complex will be sold together in one lump sum. That's interesting news as it was thought for some time that this property was mired with multiple owners, therefore requiring complicating agreements. With this not being the
Good morning, and thanks for reading this week's Media in Two Minutes. I'll have a big announcement on ATM today around 4pm. The news deals with some interesting conversations and decisions this week that will surely have an impact on the area. It'll be picked up the local and region press too, but you'll read it here first.
I know there are a lot of kids in Media and the surrounding area that would love to have a skate park in Media. Truth be told, I was one of those kids about 30 years ago who would have devoted his life for such an opportunity. Back then, we knew the challenges and setbacks associated with proposing a skate park but we were prepared to defend our position
Koffee Korner Restaurant bring back Mexican Night!
Before Mexican cuisine became big in Media, it all started with a little, but well known restaurant that served Mexican food exclusively on Thursday nights. They haven't done it in awhile, but it's BACK and that's great news! I've always liked this place and really enjoyed every Mexican dishes they hand. Has a nice ambiance too with the low
It you want to dance, you gotta pay.....or at least help setup. The great folks who put this event together can always use a helping hand and this year is no different. C'mon out and help setup stages, signs or work the booth and ticket sales. There is always something to do.
Get yourselves ready, you got less than a month to prepare for the season opening of this year's Dining Under the Stars. Festivities kick off Wednesday, May 1st. and will go all Summer long into the Fall.
It's the sixth year since this dining gala began and it's as popular as ever. Outdoor dining, kid friendly, music and of course the great food. Fellini's,
